Three Plates and a Chef key ingredient

A culinary revelation!

With each Three Plates and a Chef experience we take the time to find locally sourced ingredients that are in season. The purpose is to transform each ingredient and allow the chefs to be imaginative with the plates. 

No matter the ingredient, there is one thing remains the same - it will be surprising, delicious and maybe a tad quirky!

These plates will be something that you would not have every day or maybe not even think of eating. It is an opportunity to try something different. 


New menu each event 

Each event will bring a new and exciting menu, not just with the foods but also with the wines. This means every dish is unique; whether it is the decadent porcini mushroom ice cream or seafood in a dessert, you will only be able to try those dishes during that one event. 

We may bring back a popular event ingredient, but that doesn't mean that the menu will be the same.

Independent of wineries

Each event, whether it is our "Three Plates and a Chef" or "Wine Hub Nights" will have different wines carefully selected for you. 

We are lucky enough to be independent of the wineries, which means that we can select wines from different wineries depending on what will work best with the food. 

The wine side of the events is about exploring, trying something new and bringing the wines to you without the wine snobbery. We source the wines from boutique cellar doors from all over Australia.

The experiences are not just a plate or a glass of wine. They give an opportunity to mingle with the chef, producers or wine makers. This is such a special part of our events, connecting you with the people who create our great local produce.

Message from the Founders 

With a love of creating a communal table together with a sense of adventure and creativity, the Plate and Barrel dream began. We bring a fresh perspective on events, moving away from the large scale events and making them intimate in size. 

The focus is on creating warm and inviting moments in time. We want to inspire the community to ignite in conversation. Share laughs, stores, indulge in amazing, unique food and most importantly have fun and put a smile on everyone's faces.

We also wanted it more than just an event. It is about helping the broader community and supporting local producers. Sharing their story! There are so many amazing things in Australia and around the globe and it is about discovering them and bringing them to you. 

So, let the culinary adventures begin!

KARINA PRESTON
CO OWNER AND EVENT DIRECTOR

Since completing her degrees in Marketing, Finance and Event Management, Karina started her business life managing wine education courses, large scale events and has a love of food and wine. 

During this time she noticed what was missing from events - bringing a bit of surprise and wonder into events, respect for the produce and events that were boutique that brought back the sense of community.

DEBBIE PRESTON
CO OWNER AND EVENT DESIGNER

Debbie has a wealth of knowledge on all things business. With her previous studies in interior design, event styling and business management she also wanted to create something that had meaning and to give back to the community. 

She is inspired to create spaces that are beautiful where people can enjoy the whole experience.

SIMON REID 
HEAD CHEF                      

For the last 20+ years, Simon has travelled across the world and worked in both stand-alone restaurants and a variety of hotels. Throughout his career, he has won various gold plate awards for his food. 

Simon's philosophy around food is serving dishes that allow the ingredients to shine but also creating food that gives people pleasure when they are tasting it.
